Sheep all Sheered

Sheep all Sheered

Well it has been a busy few weeks as we have been occupied with sheering all of our sheep and Moss the Alpaca.

Boris, Basil and Moss the Alpaca making the most of the breeze after being sheered.

Normally we get a professional sheerer in to do everyone, except Moss, and it is all over in a morning. Unfortunately our Sheerer became unavailable so we had to step upto the plate and do the job ourselves.

One of the differences that we do is that we sheer the sheep using a sheering platform that has the sheep standing on a raised platform. while this does mean that the sheering does take a bit longer it is less stress on the sheep and less physical work for us – we’re not as young as we used to be!!

So the general verdict is that it has been a tale of 2 halves. The first batch of sheep that went through have been sheered a little rough but those through on the second batch are not too bad at all.

Admittedly we have run the first 2 sheep that were done back through for a tidy up at the end of the sheering sessions.
