Its that time of year again where we become obsessed with weather forecasts and also where we end up covered in grease and oil. Its Hay making season.

In preparation all of the equipment has been pulled out of the sheds and oiled and greased waiting for the best available weather window so that we can crack on with the most important time here on the farm. The hay that we produce is key to providing our winter feed for the sheep and horses.

Well on Thursday the weather window opened and we started to cut the hay.

As usual everything started well but then we had a few mechanical issues, such as a slow puncture on the turner and a couple of other issue that meant stopping and starting.

The other aspect is that we notice a lot of butterflies in one of the fields so we left a strip of grass standing to help them and also we have an area that has hares so again we left an area so that they would have cover as well.

The main part now is to work on turning the hay to help it dry out, this is going to be the focus for the next few days, while we are doing that we can work on getting ready for the next task with the baler.
