As mentioned in a previous post, the Oak trees are full of acorns this year. What that means is that as the acorns develop and grow they add a lot of weight to the branches of the tree.
While this is good news for Moss, the Alpaca, and the sheep it does put a lot of strain onto the tree itself.

We have already had one large branch on an oak tree break off and at the moment we are keeping an eye on the other Oaks.
Our biggest worry is that if we end up with some strong winds over the next weeks, before the acorns are ready to drop, will increase the risk of branches breaking. A few years ago we had 3 large branches come down.

When we do have a branch break one of the most important things that we need to do is to ensure that the fallen branch is not putting weight or pressure on another branch or onto the tree itself. If there are issues then it’s important to get the weight off the other parts of the tree as quickly as possible, failure to do so runs the risk of more branches breaking off. So for the sake of the tree there is a need for some chainsaw work.
Fingers crossed we won’t have any more branches breaking off .
